3 Year Old Program

Richmond Kings Nursery School provides a dynamic educational program set within a warm, stimulating and comfortable learning environment. Enthusiastic staff engage each child to participate in a variety of activities in the spacious facility. Children have fun away from home while learning to enjoy their peers and sharing new experiences.

Three year olds attend twice a week on Tuesday and Thursday. You select either a morning session or an afternoon session.

The morning session is from 9 to 11:15 and the afternoon session is from 1 to 3:15.

The program runs from September to May.

The three-year-old program is designed to provide learning experiences in an atmosphere that will help your child develop socially, creatively, and intellectually. Most activities involve interaction with others and require sharing. Learning to function as a group and think in terms of “we” and not “me” is a big adjustment for a three year old. While this group atmosphere is important, our program also seeks to meet the needs of individual children and to help each one develop physically, emotionally, and linguistically.

Free Choice Activities

The day begins with a free choice activity time. The children may participate in a wide variety of activities as we have an excellent selection of toys and centres available. Play is an important part of the program. During free time, the children learn to socialize, share and how to interact with other children. They are given the opportunity to make their own decisions fostering responsibility and independence.

Play Time

Both classes come together in the Big Room for play time. We share circle games together as a large group with the parachute, hula hoops or balls, and encourage large-muscle play with ride-on toys and climbers.

Story and Song

The school day ends with a story and a song. Our goal is for each child to feel secure and in doing so develop a good self-concept and positive attitude towards learning that will remain with them in their future school years.

Craft Time

Children work on crafts, paintings, or special theme-related activities. Through these projects, children can express their creativity and practice manipulating scissors, glue, felt pens, paints, and many other different art materials.

Snack Time

Snack is provided by parents on a rotating basis as posted in the newsletter and on the bulletin board. Snack time is followed by a short quiet time during which children listen to music and look at books.

Circle Time

During circle time, we sing songs, do finger plays and have stories related to the current theme. It is an important daily activity allowing children to participate in discussions and listen to others. Children learn about group interaction, gain confidence, and increase their vocabulary.
